Meet our 2020 Confirmands Isaiah 43:1 “I have called you by name and you are mine”

As part of the confirmation process we asked
our young people create an individual statement to share

(Not all of our students have completed their confirmation process, but as they do we will be adding their faith statements to this site)

There have been many moments in my life that make me stop and think
about God, but this moment I am going to share has to be the most
touching moment. My family and I were on vacation in mid-August right
after I had just made one of the hardest decisions of my life. I had to decide
between my softball family or being on a new team that has offered me
everything I needed to better myself in this sport. I ended up going to the
new team. I was a mess. So, my family went on vacation and we stopped
at Teton National Park in Wyoming which consists of 3 of the most beautiful
mountains I’ve ever seen in my life. Due to the wildfires happening in
California, you could barely see the mountains. So, we decided to go on a
hike to see the mountains up close. As we hiked closer and closer the
mountains became more visible. We hiked as high as we could and the
view was absolutely breathtaking. I could feel this wave come over me as if
God was right there showing me in the beauty of nature I had made the
right decision. I then got this sense of calmness and peace. It was the
reassurance God knew I needed. I took this picture when we came back
down the mountain and it was as if God cleared the smog for just one
minute to let my breath and understand everything happens for a reason.
From that point on I’ve never felt happier in my decision. I now know that
nature is a way for me to look for God whenever I am struggling and trying
to find answers. He will be there waiting to answer in my beauty of nature.
A verse from the bible that really connects well to what I felt is from Psalm
19 lines 1-4. “The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his
craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they
make him known. They speak without sound or word; their voice is never
heard.* Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words
to all the world.”

What does faith mean to me? What faith means to me is that God will always be there for you even though it may not seem like it sometimes. He is there. Through the tough times and the happy times he will be there celebrating and helping you through your journey of life. All the way from day one. He will be your number one supporter, and someone you can cry to and tell your feelings too on those late nights when it seems like there is no one there. Although we can not see him or feel him, his presence is what we can always rely on.

I picked a cross for my faith statement because Jesus suffered on a cross to forgive us for our sins. He healed a Roman soldier’s ear, their enemy, so they could bring him to the cross because sin was getting in between us and God. That is why I chose to build a cross: to symbolize his sacrifice.

I feel that believing in god has had a very big impact on my life lately. God is like my rock, everything that I value and love is in some way connected to God. Whenever I feel like my life is getting hard, I think of all the people in the world who have it so much worse than me and how god has blessed me with such a good life. I feel that God is my go to person whenever I need guidance or help, I like to pray and thank him every night for everything he has done for my family and how he has helped us through our worst times.  Everything that has been going out lately in the world such as the protesting, Covid19, the burning down and destroying of businesses, and all of the violent crimes have been god’s way of telling people to sit down and enjoy family and friends and appreciate what you have.  I feel that people need to stop hating everyone and start appreciating god and family.  Sitting down and having good quality time with your family is something people should consider doing more often because you won’t be able to do it forever. One song that has really guided me through all of my hard times is “Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw, in the song it says “You know there’s a light that glows by the front door, don’t forget the keys under the mat. When childhood stars shine. Always stay humble and kind, go to church ’cause your momma says to. Visit grandpa every chance that you can. It won’t be a waste of time. Always stay humble and kind.” I feel that these lyrics specifically relate to my family morals and what I value. When I need to be picked up or reminded of who I am, I like to listen to this song and it reminds me of my family, god, and everything that I believe in. I am so thankful for everything that Jesus has sacrificed for us, and how he has blessed my family and I in so many ways, I could never be any more appreciative.

What does faith mean to me?  Faith means being there for the one you love and them being there for you.  It means that things are going to get better no matter how bad they get. It also means that you are thankful for the things you have like a family, food and a roof over your head. And not complaining about the things you don’t have. But it’s mostly about the ones you love and how you can rely on them and they will always be there for you.

I feel my faith in God is the strongest when I’m out helping people. Back in 2019, I went to Canada on a mission trip. We camped at Sleeping Giant Provincial Park in tents and volunteered at the park. We help make picnic tables, clean trails, paint benches, and so on. On the days we had off we went kayaking and hiking. This experience brought me closer to God because I was out helping people and enjoying the things he created. The second mission trip I went on was to Minneapolis. There we volunteered at House of Charity. We washed tables, stacked chairs, cleaned fridges, organized food, and made food for the homeless. Then we went over to Feed My Starving Children where we helped pack food. These experiences strengthened my faith in God because it really opened my eyes to how good I have it when compared to others.

The Bible is very sacred to me. Each story teaches a new lesson, and expands my faith. Each time I read the Bible my faith in God grows stronger. He, the father, the son, and the holy spirit will be my guide through life. He, who has created all, will protect me from condemnation, and lift my spirit to him. God has been there for me through thick and thin and continues to raise my faith and love for him and the world He has created. As times get rough I know God will be at my side helping me through it all. God’s word described in the Bible teaches me how to continue to be a good person and steer away from the bad in life. The cross on which God’s son Jesus died upon holds a dear place in my heart. The cross is a sign of faith to me and will forever be important to me. My journey with God is just starting, and I’m excited to see how God will shape me as a person as the years go on.

What does faith mean to me? Faith is believing in God, because he will always be there for you, and faith is also related to family. I have faith in my family, I believe in them encourage them to do great things, and in return they do the same for me. “For by grace you have bee saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God – not the result of works so no one my boast” Ephesians 2:8-9. This means we are sinners that need a Savior and can only be saved by God’s grace. We put our faith in Jesus who died on the cross to pay for our sins and we are brought into relationship with our creator God. This is faith to me.

I decided to paint an eye with a heart in the pupil, with the words “God is love, God is real:. I chose to paint this because I believe that the eyes are windows to the soul and the soul is where all this love is. God’s love is real and it is felt in so many ways, as he is always there with us or watching over us. He created us and guides us through our lives. I felt that this was a good way to represent my love for God and my faith. God has impacted my life in so many ways and his love is shown through everything he does. He has guided me to where I am now and I am forever grateful for everything he has done, and how he has helped me and lifted me up when I was down.

God has brought so much positivity into my life. Ever since I brought God into my life a
little more seriously, I have been a lot more happier than I was before. He has brought me so much comfort. I was able to be ok with all of my mistakes knowing that He gives me His
forgiveness. I have enjoyed my life so much now that I have fully brought God into my life.

Faith, what does that mean? Well, faith for me has almost nothing to do with Jesus or God or religion in general. To me faith is something that is earned, something that we have to work for, we can’t expect someone we just met to take a bullet for us. Just like we are not expected to take a bullet for them. There’s a term “take a leap of faith”, that’s exactly what it is, just jumping into the unknown but the difference is you have people you believe will have your back and will support you. That is why they say “yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, that is why it is called the present”. And that’s the truth especially with all of the things with coronavirus going around. I have faith that things will get better, and that is what faith means to me. I don’t know when or how things will improve, but I believe or have faith that they will.

What does faith mean to me? Faith means to be honest or to trust in something that is very strong. Also it means to believe in God and have faith in him. Faith means to be thankful for what you have and not complain about what you don’t have. Family is important because family can help you in life when you are struggling and they can be by your side. Also if one of your family members is struggling you can be by their side. Families connect to faith because they believe in you and they care for you. Faith is all about loving, caring, trust, believing and confidence.

If I had to reflect on my time in Confirmation, I would say it has greatly increased my
faith. During my times at dinner, I interacted with my friends, spreading the faith between us even more. When we were in the basement, we were all taught how to use our faith in the right ways. At home, we practiced our faith at every opportunity. Even during COVID-19, we practiced our faith, even when we were miles apart.

If I had to say one thing I did not appreciate, it would most likely be how long the church
sessions had gone, but of course, I wasn’t gonna quit my road to faith over it. Overall, I would have to say confirmation was one of the greatest paths in my life so far.

This picture represents my faith statement because to me, when I hear the word faith I think of trust and kindness. This painting represents that because even when life is going bad and there seems to be no “color” or happiness, God will help you through that dark patch and you have to trust him that he will guide you with kindness and motivation. The colorful moon and path stand for the light/way to go for when times are rough (the blackness). It shows you that even in the roughest of times, there is always a way out.

Faith to me means that my feeling and prayers are valid to god and that he hears what I have to say and watches over me. Faith is something I believe everyone has even if they don’t know it. Believing god is there is only a small part of faith, faith is believing he will be there through anything and everything and no matter what he will help you through life even in your hardest moments. Faith shows love and hope, I chose the photo I did because it shows me that even on the hardest days The sun still comes up and I’m still here and there is light at the end of the tunnel even if you don’t see it.

God means a lot to me. I think he means a lot to me because he always wants to see us at our highest point and never down on yourself. He means a lot to me and people in this world cause he’s the reason we’re here. He helps when I am going through rough times, because I know he’s there for me and I can always pray so he knows what’s going on with me. The biggest reason why he means a lot to me is because he protects family, friends, and myself. He also gives me the ability to play sports and have fun.
